Watch the Instagram page of Georgina Ryland and you’ll have no doubts she is incredibly talented. Georgina is an Australian makeup artist and body painter. She draws her rich in magnificent details works both on models and on her own body and it charms.

The artist is fond of Harry Potter and one of her latest works depicts Hogwarts at night. “I’ve always been a fan of Harry Potter and I have wanted to paint the castle for a while now,” Ryland said. “I picked this particular reference image because it is so recognisable and has a very fantastical feel to it.”

Using makeup and paint, she spent 5 hours to create the masterpiece on her upper body backwards in a mirror. Watching the whole process in a time-lapse video will take 2 minutes but it still reflects how much efforts it all had taken Georgina. But still she enjoys it: “It took five hours to paint but I could have happily gone for ten hours! It was challenging but fun to try it in this painterly style.”

To create the painting she used Mehron Makeup Paradise Paints, INGLOT Eyeshadows, HD Foundation, Sparkling Dust 7, Sugarpill Tako, Bulletproof, Mochi, Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Kat Von D Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation L45, Shade and Light Palette, Trooper Tattoo Liner, Lolita Liquid Lipstick and Monarch Palette. Georgina always gives detailed information on which products she has used to create some particular work. Her passion is in utilising drawing techniques upon a 3D canvas.

Why so popular?

Georgina Ryland has a Diploma of Cinemagraphic Makeup at the Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup. And recently she has completed an Advanced Prosthetics workshop at AACM and the Val Garland School of Makeup. In 2014 she took Second Place in the International Makeup Artist Trade Show Battle of the Brushes for her piece in the Beauty/Fantasy Category. Such a background induced Georgina to use her skills in creating something completely different and peculiar.

She never confines herself to makeup standards. If she applies eyeliner, there is a little cute ghost to hold it. If she applies lipstick, she adds light lines to make lips look like brilliants or draws the Earth right on them. Regarding eyeshadows, they are nothing but the occasion to reproduce Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.

Besides, Georgina is a great prosthetics artist. She can draw anything on a human body and it will look hyperrealistic. Ryland creates magical creatures with enormous ears or noses and people with removable skin.
