INC Christianity is one of the most powerfully growing religious structures in the US. It determines the main objective not to help prayers directly, but to control main institutions in the country, bringing «heaven to earth».

If we went back to August 2011, we would see over 30,000 people cheering during U.S. presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry, now secretary of energy in the Trump administration. They came to center stage at «The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis» at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Perry read some quotes from the Bible aloud and preached about Jesus and human need in salvation. He stated that the US was overloaded with problems concerning discord in many families, fear in the market and anger from supreme power. After that, he applied to God’s forgiveness, saying: «who made us, who protects us, and who blesses us». The crowd burst into cheers and overwhelming praise to God.

Five years later, in April 2016 the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum witnessed nearly 75,000 people gathered together «to worship and pray for the “rain of revival” at Azusa Now». The event was called Azusa Now with a flashback to the100-year anniversary of 1906 Azusa Street Revival. The people preached about the supernatural transformation of the US. The procedure lasted more than 16 hours with chieftaincy of the most popular world’s Charismatic Christian leaders.

Well, these two events and their leaders are tarred with the same brush under INC, «Independent Network Charismatic». Recently they released the book called «The Rise of Network Christianity», included in Global Pentecostalism and Charismatic Christianity series. The book, authored Brad Christerson and Richard Flory, concerns the governance practices in American Pentecostalism.

What Is INC?

«Independent Network Charismatic» is a neo-charismatic organization led by independent religious entrepreneurs, often called «apostles». These leaders have close links with conservative U.S. politicians, such as Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Donald Trump. INC Christianity is increasing its number of regular attenders by an average of 3.24% per year. Now this neo-charismatic movement counts for the fastest-growing Christian group in America.

INC has a defined agenda, exactly from «The Conversation»:

  • It is not focused primarily on building congregations, but rather on spreading beliefs and practices through media, conferences, and ministry schools.
  • It is not so much about proselytizing to unbelievers as it is about transforming society through placing Christian believers in powerful positions in all sectors of society.
  • It is organized as a network of independent leaders rather than as formally organized denominations.

Fast Company conducted 41 in-depth interviews with senior leaders, staff, and participants of INC Christianity. In the article the media agency made a conclusion, that the increasing growth of the movement is the result of its network governance structure. These structures are away from formal congregations and denominations, as they allow much more experimentation, including «the supernatural, unorthodox beliefs and practices, and financing, as well as marketing techniques that leverage the power of the internet».

INC Christianity mainly appeals to young people, guiding them from God’s divine messages. The structure’s leaders and staff conduct healing sessions in the emergency rooms of public hospitals, the techniques of casting out demonic spirits at ministry school class sessions and other public places.

Pallid Statistics: Who, What And How Much

What is more, INC is beyond church attendance and congregations. It is about spreading beliefs and practices. Just some pallid statistics: there are millions of hits on the official media sites of INC over the Internet, the conducted conferences and stadium rallies produce huge turnouts, as well as media sales. As Fast Company says, Bethel, an INC ministry based in Redding, California, in 2013 had an income of $8.4 million in media sales (books, CDs, DVDs, music, digital web content) and a bit less – $7 million – via tuition at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry.

The director of media services at the Kansas City-based International House of Prayer (IHOP) states that their website annually receives over 25 million hits from all over the world. The website enters the top 50 world websites in terms of viewed video content, generating a million hours traffic of watched video content a month.

Here is the section «Give» with various alternatives of donation on the IHOP’s official website:

«Seven Mountains of Culture»

INC Christianity teaches a different view of the relationship between the Christian faith and society. They state that there are «seven mountains of culture»: business, government, media, arts & entertainment, education, family, and religion. The idea is that if all these «mountains» are under control by Christians, the problem of the nation will be solved, bringing «heaven to earth».

According to Fast Company, the leaders of INC are not chosen to simply connect individuals to God. They are supposed to introduce «perfect society to Earth», holding the most powerful positions at the top of all sectors of society. Some of them proclaimed that the Trump presidency is a part of «fulfilling God’s plan to “bring heaven to Earth” by placing believers in top posts». It relates not only to Donald Trump, but to Rick Perry, the head of the Energy Department, Betsy DeVos, the director of Department of Education; as well as to Ben Carson, the leader of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

One INC leader commented this idea: «The goal of this new movement is transforming social units like cities, ethnic groups, nations rather than individuals…if Christians permeate each mountain and rise to the top of all seven mountains…society would have biblical morality, people would live in harmony, there would be peace and not war, there would be no poverty». In addition, such a comment is just one of whose typical statements INC leaders give.

Total Control Over Main Institutions

INC Christianity is a structure, whose practices are attracting more and more people every year. But the thing is not that it serves as an organization, helping to unite God and prayers. It persuades the attenders in the necessity to transform American society, taking control over its main institutions (so-called «seven mountains of culture»). So it has all chances to change the religious and political landscape for future generations all over the country significantly.
