A popular YouTuber Gigi Gorgeous was born as Gregory Lazzarato in 1992, in Canada. The first video of Gregory putting on makeup appeared on YouTube in 2008. Since then people started recognising Greg in malls and subscribing the channel where the boy openly admitted he was gay. Unwilling to face intimidation from bullies either online or in high school, Lazzarato became the fierce. The YouTuber managed to attract a loyal following with his strength and fairness.

On Lazzarato’s mother’s death of leukemia Gigi realised life is too short not to live it your own way. In December 2013, in a year after the tragedy, Lazzarato announced video called “I Am Trangender”. There she publicly accepted the fact she is transgender. The bold confession initiated her physical transformation: Gigi engaged in a long process of different procedures. Electrolysis, tracheal shave, hormone replacement therapy, facial feminization surgery, rhinoplasty and breast augmentation made Gigi’s appearance fit her mind. Consequently, on March 8, 2014 she legally had her name changed to Gigi Loren Lazzarato.

This year the documentary film “This Is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous” had it’s world premiere at the Sundance film festival. The film is the story of a person who transited from a gay male to a transgender female and did it online. It is about power and sticking to own opinion, about difficulties and struggles and more importantly about unconditional love for a child. Gigi has a very responsive family, she probably wouldn’t have achieved everything she has without this level of family support.

“Her family is just wonderful. Her father, David, really understands what it means to be a father and to be there for his child, even though he never thought in his wildest dreams that something like this would ever happen. There are so many other films about transgender people who commit suicide or get kicked out of their homes. We need stories about love and caring and understanding right now,” says Barbara, the director of the documentary.

On Gigi’s YouTube channel there are not only beauty and fashion videos but also personal videos through which she shares her insecurities and fears. Growing popularity surrounded Lazzarato with many supportive people besides her family. This certainly contributed to her self-assurance and now Gigi feels way more confident and happy. However, watching the film trailer didn’t get her on the top of the world. Looking back on old videos Gigi found herself disappointed because she had to go through all the challenges again. “I’m still this little tiny weak girl that is not as strong as in front and is not as big and bad and independent as people think,” she revealed.

Yet it is something that makes her be who she is and she has to come through it. Gigi’s honesty is appealing as she gives people something they need — understanding, that a gorgeous celebrity is still a human. A human with feelings and fears, a natural one. This film Gigi produced teamed up with Barbara Kopple is “going to hopefully get to people that need it and let people know that they can achieve any goals that they set for themselves,” Gigi says.

Influence

“My camera became my therapist and YouTube became my diary,” Gigi recalls the life of Gregory she used to live. She posted inspirational movies, saying she loves everybody and wishes people be exactly who they want to be. She hadn’t expect her channel to become something huge. Now Gigi has about 25,8 thousand followers on Twitter, 2,2 million followers on Instagram and 2,5 million subscribers on YouTube. Social media became Gigi’s actual job. Apart from that Lazzarato has also appeared on a number of television shows including Access Hollywood, Good Work and Project Runway: All Stars.

Gigi earns a lot with the Brand she created in her own bedroom. Her visibility and influence let her gain through Google AdSense and brand integrations. Recently Gigi has also became a brand ambassador for Revlon. She teams up with celebrities like Miley Cyrus and now her management team actively seeks for greater brands, more long-term deals and business ideas.

Gigi became an inspiring model of LGBTQ community for she is very emotional, kind and open to people. She gives hope, teaches to accept and love yourself. Each of her videos is honest but the documentary is something deeper as it spans the whole story of personality changing. You are stronger than any of your circumstances regardless of anything, that is what Gigi expects you to learn.
